About Plate & Press

Plate & Press is an independent food publication edited by Kent. It follows restaurant openings, closings, menus, neighborhoods, and food culture across Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, Dexter, Chelsea, Detroit, and the rest of southeast Michigan.

The voice belongs to a writer. The experiences must belong to the people who had them. First-person visits, meals, conversations, and sensory details appear only when Kent has a contemporaneous field note or another explicit record. When another reporter or reviewer supplies the firsthand detail, the article names and links that source. Public menus, official announcements, government records, and stable local context are reported as such.

How this works

No paid placements and no sponsored content. Reporting distinguishes firsthand observation from source material and names sources readers can follow. Claims that cannot be verified or honestly attributed do not make the page.

Plate & Press reviews its archive source by source and withholds work that does not meet these standards. Articles return when the reporting underneath them is strong enough to carry the story. Material factual changes appear on the corrections page.

What you'll find here

Source-backed opening trackers, seasonal reporting, restaurant profiles, a current restaurant directory, and a source-linked food event calendar. Rankings and experiential reviews appear when field reporting supports the judgment.

If you know something we should know (a restaurant that opened, one that closed, a fact we got wrong), tell us.
