Dexter's Pub Is the Neighborhood Bar Done Right

At 8114 Main St, a small-town pub that doesn't overthink it.

Every small town needs a bar-and-grill that just works. Not the ambitious restaurant, not the brewery with a concept, not the weekend brunch spot. The place where you walk in on a Tuesday, sit at the bar, order a burger and a beer, and leave forty-five minutes later feeling like the evening went exactly right. In Dexter, that place is Dexter's Pub, at 8114 Main Street.

The Menu

The kitchen covers the ground a neighborhood pub should cover without stretching into territory it cannot hold. Baby back ribs are the item to know about. A half rack comes with two sides for around $18, and the ribs have the smoke and tenderness that suggest someone in the kitchen is paying attention to the timing.1Prices approximate as of fall 2025, based on menu observations. Meat pulls clean from the bone. The sauce is applied with restraint.

Burgers form the other pillar. A classic pub burger with fries runs around $13. Build-your-own options let you add bacon, cheese, mushrooms, or whatever else you want stacked on top. Nothing fancy. Nothing trying to earn a write-up. Just a well-cooked patty on a bun with toppings that make sense.

Wings, sandwiches, and appetizers fill out the rest. Fried pickles are the table snack. The menu reads like it was written by someone who eats at their own restaurant, which is the best thing you can say about a pub menu.

The Room and the Patio

Inside, Dexter's Pub is a bar with tables, televisions, and the kind of lighting that says "stay a while" without saying "dress up." The bar seats a decent crowd, and the tables handle the dinner rush without feeling cramped.

The patio on Main Street opens in warm weather and changes the character of the place. Sitting outside on a summer evening in downtown Dexter, watching people walk to The Beer Grotto or Joe and Rosie Coffee, is one of the better free entertainments in the county. A beer on the patio at Dexter's Pub is worth the drive from Ann Arbor on a night when you want to eat somewhere quieter.

The Tuesday Night Spot

Dexter's dining options keep growing. 42 North Social House handles the ambitious dinner. Jolly Pumpkin draws the beer crowd with sour ales and wood-fired pizza. Raterman Bread Haus has the artisan bread program. These are all reasons to drive to Dexter. Dexter's Pub is the reason to stay in Dexter.

The distinction matters. A town's food identity is not just its best restaurants. It is the place where the person who lives there eats three times a month without thinking about it. Dexter's Pub fills that role on Main Street: open Tuesday through Saturday, priced for regulars, serving food that rewards the return trip without demanding the occasion.
