Galy's Brings West African Diaspora Cooking to Downtown Ypsilanti
Chef Bangaly Kaba is now serving from the former Crawdaddy's space on North Washington Street.
Galy's is now taking orders at 20 North Washington Street in downtown Ypsilanti, the address formerly occupied by Crawdaddy's Creole and, before that, Beezy's. The restaurant's live ordering page describes a menu built around the West African diaspora and local Michigan ingredients.
The chef and the concept
What Now Detroit reported in November 2025 that chef Bangaly Kaba grew up in Ypsilanti, previously worked as head chef at Mediterraneo in Ann Arbor, and planned Galy's for the Washington Street space, drawing on cooking from Senegal, Ghana, Guinea, and Côte d'Ivoire with French, Spanish, and Portuguese influences.
The restaurant is now operating from the address. Its current Toast menu lists Sunday and Monday service plus Thursday through Saturday hours, with Tuesday and Wednesday shown as closed. Hours can change during the opening period, so confirm before traveling.

The live menu lists beef fataya, lamb, chicken, jerk, and vegan burgers, alongside West African and diaspora-inspired entrees. Chicken yassa is served with jollof rice and fried plantains.
