JD's Stage Bistro Plans Restaurant and Listening Room in Chelsea

JD's Stage Bistro plans wood-fired pizza, live music, and a Michigan-focused kitchen on Main Street.

JD's Stage Bistro is a planned restaurant and live-music venue at 117½ South Main Street in Chelsea. A November 2025 announcement published by ChelseaMich identifies actor and Purple Rose Theatre founder Jeff Daniels as a co-founder alongside the Tannin Property Group team.

The bistro is a partnership involving the Daniels family and Tannin Property Group. Chef Nate Wegryn will run the kitchen. According to the project's official site, the food plan includes wood-fired pizza and Michigan-focused dishes. The site identifies a bistro and patio, a 136-seat Stage Room, and private-event spaces for groups of 8 to 70.

The music component separates this from a straightforward restaurant opening. The announcement names Gavin Haverstick of Haverstick Designs as the acoustic designer. The official site describes the Stage Room as a 136-seat listening room with food and beverage service.

The project sits near the Purple Rose Theatre and existing Main Street businesses including The Common Grill, Smokehouse 52, Zou Zou's Cafe, Ugly Dog Distillery, The Lakehouse Bakery, and Agricole Farm Stop. Whether the restaurant becomes a late-night anchor is a question for after it opens.

The venue is currently targeting a mid-summer 2026 opening. Menu, reservation, and ticket details should be confirmed on the official site before planning a visit.
