Dos Hermanos Express Is a Family Tradition Made Fresh Every Day
Brothers Alex and Hiram Arreola are carrying on a family legacy with from-scratch Mexican food on Jackson Industrial.
I drove past Dos Hermanos Express three times before I stopped. Jackson Industrial Drive is a commercial strip in Scio Township, the kind of place where you pick up auto parts or drop off dry cleaning. It is not where you expect to find one of the better burritos in the Ann Arbor area. But the Arreola brothers are not interested in your expectations.
Alex and Hiram Arreola grew up in their family's restaurants. Their family ran Dos Hermanos Grill, has ties to Dos Hermanos in Ypsilanti and a business in Adrian. The Arreola name has been attached to food in this part of Michigan for a while. When they opened their own place in March 2024, the recipes came with them. Everything at Dos Hermanos Express is made from scratch every day. Tortillas, salsas, meats. All of it, daily. That is the baseline, not the selling point.
The Food
The ambition is execution. Tortas, burritos, quesadillas, tacos. No fusion, no twists, no apologies. You order at the counter, the food comes fast, and it is better than it has any right to be at that speed. The burritos are built by people who understand that structural integrity matters: tight, heavy, nothing sliding out the back on the third bite. The tortas are generous enough that finishing one feels like an accomplishment. I have eaten the al pastor tacos four times and have not ordered anything else on the taco menu, which is either a recommendation or a confession.
Prices do not require deliberation. This is a place where two people eat well for under $25.
Jackson Industrial
There is a version of this restaurant on Main Street that charges twice as much and has a six-week wait for a review in the local paper. Instead, it is on a strip in Scio Township next to a parking lot, and the overhead savings go into your plate. The location filters for intent. Nobody ends up at 25 Jackson Industrial by accident. You go because someone told you to go, and then you become the person who tells someone else.
The Arreola brothers are not building a brand. They are running a family restaurant that happens to be in a place most Ann Arbor diners have never stopped. Drive out there. Order the burrito. You will understand why the parking lot is full at noon on a Tuesday.
Dos Hermanos Express is at 25 Jackson Industrial Dr, Ann Arbor (Scio Township). Mon-Thu 11 a.m.-8 p.m., Fri-Sat 11 a.m.-9 p.m., Sun 12-7 p.m.
