Huna Tiki Bar Opens in Echelon's Basement on South Main
A tiki bar underneath a James Beard semifinalist? Ann Arbor just got more interesting.
Huna Tiki Bar is now open in the basement of 200 South Main Street, directly beneath Echelon Kitchen & Bar. The space has been transformed into a moody, Polynesian-inspired cocktail bar with a rum-forward drink program and a menu of bar food that leans into the tiki tradition without becoming a parody of it.
The concept comes from the same team behind Echelon. Chef Joseph VanWagner and his partners wanted to use the basement space for something that complemented the upstairs restaurant without duplicating it. The result is a separate experience entirely: darker, louder, and more playful than the refined dining room above.
The cocktail list is built around rum, with drinks that range from classic tiki formulas to original creations. Expect tropical flavors, elaborate garnishes, and glassware that commits to the bit. The food menu is shorter and designed for sharing. Think Polynesian-inspired bar snacks rather than full entrees.
Hours are later than Echelon's main dining room, making Huna a natural second stop for diners finishing upstairs, or a standalone destination for anyone looking for something different on South Main.
Huna Tiki Bar is at 200 S. Main St (basement), Ann Arbor. Open evenings, later hours than Echelon upstairs.
